Baker volleyball squad runs league mark to 5-1 with win over Mac-Hi

Bulldogs get another crack at La Grande Thursday

Fresh off a key victory last week over Greater Oregon League rival La Grande, Baker High School’s volleyball team struggled at times before defeating GOL opponent Mac-Hi Monday night at the Baker gymnasium.

The scores were 25-10, 25-14 and 25-2.

Baker now sports a league-leading 5-1 mark in the GOL as it prepares for a road match against La Grande Thursday.

Coach Marcy Hayes’ squad could be excused for perhaps looking past Mac-Hi a bit Monday.

“We had a hard time getting motivated to play tonight,” Hayes said. “It was a slower-paced game and the girls had a hard time getting going.”

Hayes said she ran different lineups throughout the evening and overall was pleased with the result.

“Everyone played well tonight,” she said. “We are looking forward to our game on Thursday against La Grande.”

On the night, Cassidie Horn was 14-of-15 hitting with 7 kills. Savannah Daly was 19-for-20 serving while Kylie Kitzmiller was 21-for-23 serving.

Baker’s junior varsity also posted a win Monday, downing the Pioneers 25-9, 25-12. Camas Ekman turned in a perfect performance — 12-for-12 serving and 5-for-5 digging. Kelsey Cole added 5 kills and 6 assists. Darryn McCauley was 17-for-18 serving and 12-for-12 hitting, with 4 kills to boot. Kaycee Kitzmiller finished 5-for-7 hitting with 1 kill.

The Baker frosh/soph team also posted a victory last week, defeating La Grande 25-21 and 25-12.

Kathryn Daugherty was 13-for-13 setting with 2 kills. Jessica McKim was 4-of-4 serving with a kill, Alyssa Ward was 5-for-6 digging, Britni Bobo was 4-for-6 passing and Ashley Trees 12-for-12 serving with 4 kills.

Also, Emily Smith was a perfect 8-for-8 serving and 19-for-19 setting. Kaycie Kitzmiller was 15-for-17 setting and 9-for-11 serving.
