BLM reports new fire in Rye Valley

The BLM's Vale District says lightning storms Tuesday night and early Wednesday sparked at least 13 new fires on the district, including a blaze in Rye Valley in southeastern Baker County.

The size of the Rye Valley fire hasn't been determined, according to the BLM.

The agency also reports as many as six new fires, of unknown size, in the Pedro Mountain area south of Durkee.

BLM officials recommend residents in Rye Valley and in the Brogan area of northern Malheur County take appropriate precautions due to the proximity of the fires.

The agency, along with the Oregon Department of Forestry, has dispatched fire crews to most of the new blazes.

Richardson is trying to deny John Kitzhaber an unprecedented fourth term as Oregon’s chief executive.
