Wallowa-Whitman easing fire restrictions Thursday

Starting Thursday the Wallowa-Whitman will allow campfires in designated campgrounds and recreation areas, and in the Eagle Cap Wilderness.

Forest officials banned all fires a few weeks ago due to the extreme fire danger.

Baker School District enrollment has dropped slightly from September 2014 compared with preliminary figures compiled today.

Two more groups of mosquitoes infected with West Nile virus

Two more groups of mosquitoes trapped in Baker County have tested positive for West Nile virus, the Baker Valley Vector Control District said this morning.

That brings the total for 2015 to four “pools” of mosquitoes — each pool consists of 10 to 50 insects.
