Baker City is welcoming the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association later this weekend when the organization celebrates a century of advocacy on behalf of ranchers across Oregon. 

The OCA was founded in Baker City in 1913. For the 100th celebration, the convention returns to its roots June 20-23 for activity-filled days.

The 2013 convention agenda features dignitary guest speakers — including Congressman Greg Walden — industry education opportunities, association business and committee meetings, and social events for registered attendees.

The reconstruction of Resort Street continues as warm weather marks the beginning of more community activities.

The project is on schedule, but traffic issues in and around the project area, between Auburn Avenue and Campbell Street, have become more of a concern.

“We’ve been trying to get the word out that businesses are remaining open on Resort Street during the street project,” said Michelle Owen, the city’s public works director.

However, some drivers are having trouble understanding which blocks are open.
