Auction to raise money for six-year-old heart transplant patient

Sierra Bingham, the Haines 6-year-old who received a heart transplant in early August, is still in Palo Alto, Calif., with her family to be near Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.

Upcoming fund-raisers for the Bingham family will help pay medical and living expenses.

WALK-A-THON: A community walk-a-thon is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 20, in North Powder. Meet at Powder Valley School.

TACO FEED/AUCTION: On Friday, Sept. 22, there will be a taco dinner and auction at Community Connection to celebrate Sierra's seventh birthday. (Her birthday is Sept. 20.) Tickets for this event are $5 per person or $10 for families of three or more. Events begin at 5 p.m.

There will be a silent and live auction; donated items include a motorcycle, a print by Terri Axness, a buffalo hide, lots of gift certificates and much more.

All proceeds will benefit the Bingham family.

DINNER/MUSIC/AUCTION: On Saturday, Sept. 23, a dinner, auction and benefit concert is scheduled at the Baker City Elks Lodge.

The dinner offers a choice of chicken-fried steak or ham, and begins at 5:30 p.m.

The auction begins at 7 p.m., and there will be a concert by Jimmy Lloyd Rea and the Switchmasters afterward.

Tickets for the entire evening are $10 per person or $25 per family.

There will be a $5 admission fee for those who wish to only hear the music.

All proceeds from the auction on Saturday will go to the family of Jaycee Dunn, a Baker City 13-year-old who died last month from a heart condition.

Money raised at the dinner and concert will be divided between the Dunn family and the Bingham family.
