OTEC trims rates slightly

Oregon Trail Electric Consumers Cooperative ratepayers will enjoy a small break starting with their October electric bill. A decrease — although a modest one. The cooperative announced Wednesday it was reducing customers’ electric bills an average of 0.68 percent, beginning with bills printed Thursday. That would save ratepayers 68 cents on a $100 electric bill. According to a prepared release, the rate reduction is tied to the Power Cost Adjustment portion of OTEC members’ power bills. OTEC established the adjustment to reflect changes in wholesale power costs from the Bonneville Power Administration. “In keeping with the principles of a non-profit, member-owned cooperative electric utility, we are able to lower our rates in response to this wholesale power cost adjustment from our wholesale power provider, BPA,” OTEC general manager Werner Buehler said. The adjustment eliminates the need for a new retail rate approval each time wholesale power costs change. The last time OTEC adjusted rates was in January 2006, when the utility reduced rates by 16 percent across the board.
