Cycle Oregon should plan a summer visit, too
In addition to playing host to part of this year's ride, Baker City should invite Cycle Oregon back to Baker County in the future for one of the organization's shorter summer event.
Baker City is an excellent home base. The Baker Sports Complex proved to be a good location for the city on wheels in 2004, with easy access to food and shops via the .
A long weekend could include one or more of these marvelous paved routes in the Blues:
o Counterclockwise on the , with an approach to Elkhorn Summit via Haines, not Granite;
o Through the Sumpter Valley and Burnt River country and over Dooley Mountain via Austin Junction (the infamous "alternate" of the Elkhorn Classic).
