Good luck, and win a title, Bulldogs
Good luck, and win a title, Bulldogs

Baker High School has played in 29 football playoff games since 1940, the year the Oregon School Activities Association started sanctioning the event. On Saturday the Bulldogs will run onto the artificial turf at Reser Stadium in Corvallis for the school’s 30th playoff. Or its first, depending on the perspective. Saturday’s game against Marist, a private school from Eugene, is for the Class 4A championship. Marist has played in six championship games.Baker has played in none. Which makes Saturday’s contest an historic one for the Bulldogs and for the city they represent. We’re proud of the players — and not only because they’ve won 11 of 12 games this fall. They’ve also demonstrated sportsmanship and class. The Bulldogs have in this year’s playoffs won the easy way — 57-14 over Phoenix — and the hard way — 21-14 over Astoria and 23-16 over Stayton. On Saturday we just hope for one more win, whether the margin is one point or 40. |
