Learn about China's dinosaurs July 9 at Baker County Library

Travel 200 million years back in time with OMSI to visit dinosaurs during a noon videoconference July 9 at the Baker County Public Library, 2400 Resort St.

During the lunchtime presentation, OMSI staff will guide guests on an exploration of China's most spectacular ancient fossils ever to be seen outside of the country.

The outreach program is a special overview of OMSI's current exhibit, "Dinosaurs: China's Ancient Giants," that features 20 complete dinosaur skeletons (both casts and fossils) and a 67-foot-long adult Mamenchisaurus, the longest-necked dinosaur. Other rarely seen dinosaurs featured in the exhibit include; the fierce Velociraptor, the feathered Caudipteryx, the plant eating Lufengosaurus, the duck-billed Tsintaosaurus, and more.

Stories will be presented by Patrick Mangan, lead educator in OMSI's Featured Exhibit Hall and Blair Baldwin, distance learning manager and earth scientist. They will also illustrate the unique geologic conditions necessary for such preservation and compare the environment of the Liaoning Province in China with that of Oregon's John Day Basin.

This event is suitable for all ages and is free. No registration is required and guests are welcome to bring a lunch. The program is made possible by OMSI's partnership with Libraries of Eastern Oregon, a consortium of rural libraries.
