Oregon Reads 2009 events continue in March

The Oregon Reads 2009 events continue this month with a book discussion at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 24 at the Baker County Library, 2400 Resort St.

Library director Perry Stokes said copies of “Stubborn Twig,” the main selection of the Oregon Reads 2009 project, have been flying off the shelves at both the Baker County Library and Betty’s Books.

The book discussions offer a forum to share thoughts on issues raised in the book, along with personal memories and your family’s immigration history

The discussions will be moderated by Stokes.

Also happening this weekend is a showing for the Oregon Reads film series. Everyone is invited, and it begins at 6 p.m. Saturday at the library.

The theme is natural resources and there will be a double feature — Charlie Chaplin’s “The Gold Rush” (1925, 27 minutes) and “A Rough Cut Life: Logging Railroad Stories” (2008, 30 minutes, documentary).

The films on March 21 (also 6 p.m. at the library) will be themed on the Japanese-American experience and include “A Family Gathering) (1988, 60 min.) and “On Paper Wings” (2008, 67 min.).

For information , call the library at 523-6419.
