Letter to the editor for November 4, 2008

D Street residents have questions

To the editor:

In regards to the D Street project, we would like to speak on behalf of the people living on that short stretch of D Street between Clark Street and Cedar.

First let me state that we have no objections to a street going in, but why does it have to be so wide? It sounds like it is as wide or slightly wider than Campbell. Do we really need a street this wide and costly in a residential area? It doesn’t seem consistent to single family dwellings in a residential street.

It has no street light, so any drunk driver, or anyone inclined to be driving recklessly, may drive through our front doors or windows in the middle of the night, because our houses are in such close proximity to the street.

In addition, why is it necessary to have a bike path and a walkway? Under the present circumstances, wouldn’t one be sufficient and less costly? This would at least give us a little more room. Then of course, our property value would go down, however, and we still will be obliged to pay the same amount of property taxes!

The majority of people in our section on D Street are elderly, or seniors. Are we being victimized again? Is there no room for negotiations?
