Letters to the Editor for Aug. 16, 2010

Many made Shrine parade success

To the editor:

I would like to thank all of the floats, trucks, cars and people for participating in the East/West Shrine Parade. I especially thank Thoy Busciglio, Powder River Motors, Superior Towing, Rocky Brown, Larry Rockenbrant, Gentry Motors, Wayne Lewis, and Troy Lepley for providing transportation in the parade to special dignitaries, El Korah Concert Band and past players in the Shrine Game.

I would like to thank the JQ’s 4-H club for helping set up all of the barricades along the parade route. Thank you to Keith and Marilyn Shollenberger of Marilyn’s Music store for announcing the parade and to the Baker City Police Department for all of their hard work in helping us get the parade permits and providing police escort for the parade.

Finally I would like to thank all of the parade viewers for appreciating the approximate 60 parade participants which included various Shrine temples and clubs from around the state of Oregon and Idaho. The first time parade chairs would also like to thank the members of the Baker County Shrine Club for all of their help.  To quote Former Shrine Queen Carrie Folkman, “Once a year I spend several days with a group that have dedicated their lives and most of their retirement years for raising dollars to provide children with the highest quality orthopedic care at no cost. Shriners are some of the most caring and giving people in the world! I am so blessed to have been a part of their mission.”

Ginger and I could not agree more and challenge you all to step forward to take an active role in the mission of the Shrine Hospital.

Kerry and Ginger Savage
