Letters to the Editor for Aug. 7, 2009

A disappointed poker player

To the editor:

Regarding the July 28 City Council meeting topic, renewal of gaming license at Stockman’s Bar. I am disappointed that five members of our City Council unwisely chose to side with Chief of Police Lohner and voted against renewal of Stockman’s gaming license.

This was clearly a case of persecution of the innocent and extremely unfair to all the people who play in these poker games. I wonder if the future of Baker City is in good hands with these city officials who have no consideration for the rights of the citizens who elected them to their positions on the Council.

I am hopeful that in the near future some changes will be made in regard to this situation and clearer heads will prevail so these games can continue to be played and enjoyed by the many poker players in Baker City.

Wayne Burnside
