Soldier would like local pen pals To the editor: Sir: I am over here in Afghanistan serving my third combat tour. I did two tours in Iraq and this one in Afghanistan. I would just like everyone in Baker City to have my address in case they want to write me. My address is SGT Robert Olp 211th A 5/3 FA TF Hound Dawg Fob O.E. APO, AE 09311. As most of the Baker City residents know I lived in Baker for quite some time from about 1996-2002. When I joined the Army I was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., for about 5fi years then I requested Fort Lewis, Wash. I personally love Baker City and when I get out of the Army, maybe in about 13 more years, I am really considering moving to Baker. Like everyone says, there’s no place like home. Well, Baker is the only place where you can come, not knowing someone, and they still say hi and want to have a conversation. Well if anyone wants to write me my address is at the top and my e-mail is This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Thank you. Sgt. To the editor: I would like the community to know about the great kids we have here. I was attending the memorial open house for Jack Ferguson on Saturday. Immediately after the Bulldogs’ great victory over Astoria the entire football team came rushing over to the Fergusons’ to pay homage to their No. 1 fan Jack and his family. It was a very touching site to see the genuine love and care they felt for this man and his family as they surrounded his wife Dixie. So kudos to all of these great young men, the cheerleaders who were also there during the day, the parents who are raising such fine, upstanding citizens and the coaches who guide them. I know Jack was with you every step of the way to your victory and will be there with you, cheering you on, every time you step out onto that field. Lori Ellis Baker City |
