Help needed to save community concerts To the editor: Music lovers unite! We have been privileged since 1952 to have quality concerts brought to town through the Baker Community Concert Association. These concerts are quite expensive and our board has consistently tried to provide the best concerts we can afford. Due partially to the lower economy, we are hurting financially. We, as board members, desire to offer five quality concerts annually — as we have done in the past. However, we always stay on the conservative side price-wise since the concerts are priced between $3,500 and $35,000. A fundraising committee has been meeting frequently trying to plan an event to raise money for the concert association. We will have a night of local musical talent (which is being donated), a silent auction of items from local businesses, and a wonderful dessert provided by a local business. All of this will be presented on Feb. 13 at the BHS Commons and auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door at the price of $10 for adults, $5 for students and free for children age 5 and younger. For those who are not aware, we are the only concert association in the area. The closest association is in Ontario. Please don’t let the music be silenced in our community. Please come show you support on Feb. 13 as well as at our concerts. We need you! Debbie Cole Baker City |
