Governor impressed with Baker residents

To the editor:

To the Citizens of Baker County:

As I read the numerous news reports of the van crash that killed two young people and injured 14 more on I-84, what stood out to me was the quick and compassionate response of the citizens of Baker County. I am reminded of a quote from Victor Hugo wherein he states, “Great perils have this beauty, that they bring to light the fraternity of strangers.” I am confident that the families and friends of the minister students from New Life Worship Center in Federal Heights, Colo., would agree that the community of Baker County has been a light for them in their time of peril.

One of the distinguishing characteristics of a great community is the principle of service to others; no matter how inconvenient. As a citizen of Oregon, I am proud to know that there are communities in our state built on the principle of service to others and are willing to live out that principle. As Governor, I would like to acknowledge the men and women of Baker County for your selfless acts in helping a group of complete strangers cope with a time of personal tragedy and loss. Your example is worthy of recognition and imitation.

Respectfully,

Theodore R. Kulongoski

Oregon governor

Obama’s stories like a first-grader’s

To the editor:

Fox and other reliable news sources, some liberal, have revealed that the Obama administration’s account of “jobs saved and created” has several minor discrepancies. In enumerating the number of jobs saved and created by congressional district, it seems as though dozens if not a hundred or so of the congressional districts named do not even exist.

This is the equivalent of a first-grader’s explanation — “my dog ate my homework” — being used when the kid has no dog.

The Obama administration’s reply is something like this: “Just because there are no such congressional districts, it does not mean that the jobs were not created or saved.”

The equivalent reply by the first-grader would be: “Just because I don’t have a dog, that doesn’t mean he never ate my homework.”

If this guy wasn’t so dangerous to the nation, his comical lies would make his election worth the mistake. I almost laughed myself off the recliner. The best of the liberal Democrats are real good at deception and lies. This guy can’t even lie worth a damn. I always thought efficient lying was a basic requirement for the liberal wing of the Democrat party. For that alone he should be expelled from the Democrat party.

The newest deception from them is that breast mammograms really aren’t necessary until a woman is over 50. Up until Obamacare was being proposed they were pushing for mammograms in the 20s. I guess this is part of the waste, fraud and abuse they are proposing to save. I wonder if the same congressional districts will be named in the savings of the government-run healthcare debacle.

Tell me, how funny is cancer? Huh?
