Please help make the park fun To the editor: The city park is being abused by local teenagers. Every time my family and I go to the park I see a group of underage teenagers sitting there smoking and abusing the park by throwing garbage on the ground, having mean, oversized dogs off leashes, destroying park equipment and saying bad words in front of little children. I know a bunch of parents and grandparents who refuse to use the park because of this problem. I have never seen any policeman or public officials patrolling the city park. The city and recreation funds should buy a lot of new and safer playground equipment. Please help us make our city park a more clean and safer place to live for me, my younger siblings and other young children to play in. When I was 3 the park was my pirate ship, or a flight to the moon. But now that I am older I realize that our city park has been scaring my little siblings. And I always thought the park was supposed to be a happy place. So please, please help me to get my brother and sister to be happy again. From the heart of a sixth-grade, 11-year-old girl. Madison Hatfield Baker City Lots of charities need your help To the editor: It’s the end of the year again, slowly approaching. I would like to remind everyone to please give to your favorite charities. Keep in mind we have several charities in Baker City that need your help. If you have ever been hungry and needed food, or homeless and needed a helping hand, cold without a coat or heat to keep you warm, a ride to the doctor that’s out of town, stranded in a town with a broken down car or just plain stranded trying to get home. We have an emergency fund care of Baker City Christian Church, 675 Highway 7, or the ministerial association which need our help. Also our food banks: Baker City Christian Church, Northeast Oregon Compassion Center, The Salvation Army, babies and their mothers, Rachel Pregnancy Center. That’s to name a few. Don’t forget to let the volunteers know what a fine job they are doing. Tammy Marie Baker City |
