Main St. sidewalks not fit for bikes

To the editor:

Beverly Calder's suggestion that bicyclists be allowed on sidewalks is absolutely ludicrous. Main Street is our restaurant and shopping hub where we encourage people to park and walk. Sidewalk sales and outdoor cafe seating cannot exist in the middle of a bike route.

If she really wants to see cyclists on Main Street, she should be encouraging re-striping of the road to include a bike lane. There are a lot of things we can do to make Main Street more enjoyable and useful, but allowing bicycles on the sidewalk is not one of them.
