Rate hike an insult to injury

To the editor:

I'm sure the public works director feels justified in requesting a rate increase for our water and sewer services.

However, if the city council decides to vote on the issue in April, I hope they will consider the state of the economy and that many of us are already being financially stressed by rising food and gas prices, especially those who are on fixed or low incomes.

Also, since I became a widow a little over a year ago, I am still paying the same for water usage.

After reading about the proposed increases, a friend commented: "It would just add insult to injury."

I agree.
