What we should ask God for
What we should ask God for

To the editor: Dear God: You have probably heard the City Council is doing the prayer thing again. Just to stir up the pot a little. . . . I know you are disgusted with those refusing to take on self responsibility and not acknowledging you gave each of them the endowment of self responsibility, intellect, reason, logic, creative application to make life livable and the potential to be noble in reason and infinite in faculty (Shakespeare) and yet they turn your gifts down in favor of mystic rituals (prayer). They want you to do things for them they can very well do for themselves. To which God caricature are they praying? The polygamy God, the Saturday God, the go to hell nonbelievers God, et.al.? There are billions on Earth now and disasters all over the world including famine and war and, the City Council wants what from you? Maybe you could talk to all of us about everyday common courtesy and respect. And, that there are more important community issues than praying in public. Thank you, God, for this beautiful Baker City area where we live and for the hard-working, industrious, creative people who live every day making life more livable for all of us. And last, I challenge anyone to show any instance where prayer helped or solved a problem for the City Council. Jay Boman Baker City |
