Anonymous donor gives $50,000 to SVRR

The complete refurbishment is projected to cost as much as $250,000, with final costs to be determined after surveys are completed as it is disassembled and inspected, according to a press release.

The 1920 vintage locomotive was last rebuilt at the Brooklyn Shops in Portland, returning to service in 1996. The current overhaul will be done at the SVRR shops at McEwen.

Heisler No. 3, which is a narrow-gauge wood-burning geared steam locomotive, will be the main operating locomotive for spring 2010. Both numbers 19 and 3 are original to the logging lines that operated between Baker City and Prairie City.

SVRR is a volunteer organization. Volunteers participate in historic restoration and expansion projects, as well as being trained to run and maintain the locomotives and equipment used during the summer. Members also receive the Stump Dodger, the official quarterly newsletter.
