Baker High School students will get the opportunity to learn more about careers ranging from engineering to physical therapy and graphic design Friday morning during a career fair titled “Enterprise Expedition 2010.” The event has been organized by the school’s Future Business Leaders of America. Expedition leaders are Tori Wirth, Mallory Bailey and Amanda Bailey. Wirth, a senior, is president of the FBLA Baker chapter this year and Blue Mountain regional vice president on the FBLA’s state leadership team. Mallory Bailey is state FBLA president and executive vice president of the Baker chapter. Wirth and the two Baileys, senior Mallory and her younger sister, Amanda, a BHS freshman, have recruited more than 30 presenters for Friday’s event. Classes for the day, which usually are limited to about 30 minutes each because students are released early on Fridays, will be abbreviated to 15 minutes each because of the Enterprise Expedition.Students will attend two 15-minute class periods as their day gets under way. Next, they will be directed to the auditorium for the opening session featuring Mallory Bailey and Wirth as the keynote speakers. At 8:50 a.m. students will get the chance to select one of three “power sessions” where presenters will speak for 25 minutes. Lunch will be served from 11:10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. in Gere Richardson’s room, No. 121. Classes will resume on the shortened schedule at 11:50 a.m. and the day will end as usual at 1:25 p.m. In addition to the career presenters, the students will get the chance to learn more about the job interview process, how to build a strong resume and dressing for success. Presenters also will discuss small business financing and offer tips for college students, including financial aid and what to expect from college life. Representatives from Blue Mountain Community College, Treasure Valley Community College, the University of Oregon, Eastern Oregon University and George Fox University and U.S. Army and Oregon National Guard recruiters will have booths set up in the commons area for students to visit during the event. All BHS students and others from Burnt River High School at Unity and Union High School are scheduled to participate, the expedition leaders said. |
