Bennett, Dunn, Harvey finalists for county commission opening

The Baker County Republican Central Committee has picked Mark Bennett, Chris Dunn and Bill Harvey as candidates for a vacancy on the Baker County Board of Commissioners.

The Committee met Wednesday evening to choose from among eight candidates who want to replace Carl Stiff, who resigned last month due to health issues.

The two remaining commissioners — Fred Warner Jr. and Tim L. Kerns — will make the final decision, possibly during a May 8 meeting, appointing Bennett, Dunn or Harvey to serve the rest of Stiff's term, which continues through the end of 2014.

Nine people originally applied as candidates. In addition to Bennett, Dunn and Harvey the list included Roger Coles, Dick Fleming, Jeff Nelson, Jeff Petry, Terry Schumacher and Tom Van Diepen.

Petry had withdrawn his candidacy before Wednesday's GOP nominating convention.
