Body of missing Canadian man found in Nevada

ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Hunters have discovered the remains of a 59-year-old Canadian man who was missing in the wilderness near the Nevada-Idaho line since he and his wife got stranded a year and a half ago.

Authorities say Albert Chreitien left the couple's vehicle and set out on foot seeking help three days after they got stuck on March 22, 2011. His wife was rescued after surviving 48 days in their vehicle.

The Elko Daily Free Press (http://bit.ly/SYhK7V ) reported Monday that two people found Chretien's remains Saturday in a heavily wooded part of Merritt Mountain in Elko County. They contacted sheriff's deputies, who used items in a pocket to identify him.

A public memorial was held for Chretien in April in his hometown of Penticton, B.C.
