COUNCIL MEET SITE CHANGED TO BHS AUDITORIUM

The Baker City Council will meet Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Baker High School auditorium, 2500 E St.

The meeting was originally scheduled for City Hall, but the auditorium has a much larger capacity.

Tests have showed the presence of cryptosporidium in the water as of July 31.

An earlier city press release was in error in stating that the meeting would include the city's planning commission.

Fourteen people have been diagnosed with the illness caused by the waterborne parasite, and dozens of other residents have reported suffering from persistent diarrhea, stomach cramps and other symptoms consistent with crypto infection.

In a press release Monday afternoon, the city noted that the capacity of City Council chambers is 50 people.

Because the meeting location has been changed, the city won't have the capacity to show the meeting live on Charter Cable Channel 3 or by online streaming at www.bakercity.com. An audio recording will be made, however.

City officials continue to recommend residents boil tapwater that's to be used for drinking, washing dishes, brushing teeth or cooking, or use bottled water.
