Dielman to show slides of monarch tree Tuesday

Gary Dielman, the Baker City man who discovered the ancient limber pine tree that was featured on a recent episode of OPB’s “Oregon Field Guide,” will show slides from the filming expedition on Tuesday at the Geiser Grand Hotel.

The PowerPoint presentation on the making of “Dielman’s Monarch” will start at 6 p.m. at the hotel, 1996 Main St.

The event is free to the public.

Dielman will show slides of the Oregon Field Guide crew in action, as well as scenes of the tree and its setting high in the Eagle Cap Wilderness north of Halfway.

Tuesday’s presentation also will feature two local Forest Service employees who went along on the expedition last summer: Victoria Rockwell and Jenifer Ferriel.

They joined Dielman, tree-ring expert Dr. Evan Larson from the University of Wisconsin, and Mark Halley and his five-mule pack train from the Cornucopia Pack Station.
