How Much Did You Get?

Of the Baker City Herald

After a weekend of steady snowfall, Sumpter residents woke up to see 20 to 24 inches of snow in their yards this morning.

Their first snowflakes fell on Christmas Eve, piling up to about eight inches, said Toni Thompson, city recorder.

"Then it never went away — it packed a little. It went from nothing to snow," she said.

And it was still snowing today.

"I had at least six inches on the pickup this morning," Thompson said.

Unity residents saw all of their snow come in a rush on Sunday, said Brian Bradford, city recorder.

The snowflakes had stopped falling by this morning after piling up to about 14 inches, he said.

Prior to Sunday's storm, the area had about an inch of snow, Bradford said.

Across the county in Halfway, the snow was still coming down this morning.

"It started Saturday night and it hasn't stopped," said Spring Bishop, Halfway's deputy city recorder.

They have about 16 to 18 inches, she said.

"Just lots of snow plowing going on," she said.
