Motorcyclist dies en route to rally

A California motorcyclist traveling to Baker City for the Hells Canyon Motorcycle Rally died in a single-vehicle crash south of Riley Thursday. Glenn Scott Joyce, 58, of Alturas, Calif., was killed in the crash, according to Oregon State Police. OSP Recruit Trooper Jeremiah Beckert said in a press release issued Thursday night that police and Burns-area emergency responders were called to the fatal crash on Highway 395, four miles south of Riley, at 1:33 p.m. Thursday.Police said Joyce was riding with a group of motorcyclists that was spread out over a couple of miles traveling north on Highway 395 en route to the Hells Canyon rally. Joyce traveled off the shoulder and into a ditch, hitting several boulders. He was wearing a helmet, police said. The highway was dry when the accident happened and the road was not blocked during the investigation. |
