Myers guilty of murder, other charges

A Baker County jury has found Daniel Myers guilty of murder and several other charges.

The seven-woman, five-man jury returned its unanimous verdict about 11 a.m. at the Courthouse in Baker CIty.

Myers, 56, who declined to attend the trial, which started Feb. 21, watched by video link at the Baker County Jail as the jury delivered its verdict.

Jurors decided that Myers fatally shot Travis Weems, 39, a former Baker County resident, near Sumpter on Jan. 27, 2011.

The jury also found Myers guilty of unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and unlawful delivery and possession of methamphetamine.

A hearing was scheduled for 2 p.m. today to discuss when Judge Greg Baxter will sentence Myers.

The Baker City Herald will have full coverage of the verdict in its Friday issue.
