New superintendent at Baker City prison

Brad Cain, a longtime employee for the Oregon Department of Corrections, has been hired as the superintendent at the Powder River Correctional Facility in Baker City.

Cain has worked as operations manager at Powder River, a minimum-security facility that houses 286 inmates, since January 2012.

“PRCF has been very fortunate to have the wealth of knowledge, expertise, and leadership abilities Brad offers,” Colette S. Peters, the Corrections Department's director, said in a press release. “In addition to his dedication to the department, he also served our country in the Oregon National Guard from 1994 to 2000.”

Cain started his career with the Corrections Department in 1990 (the year after Powder River opened) when he was hired as a correctional officer at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution in Pendleton. He was later promoted to positions at the Oregon State Correctional Institution, Santiam Correctional Institution near Salem, and the Snake River Correctional Institution at Ontario. He worked at Snake River for more than seven years, five as security manager and two as manager of Snake River's minimum security facility, before taking the job at Powder River.
