POSSESSION OF MORE THAN ONE OUNCE (BUT LESS THAN FOUR OUNCES) OF MARIJUANA: William Spears, 34, of Huntington, 5:34 a.m. Oct. 1; cited and released; police said the citation was issued after investigation of a crash in which a Hyundai Accent driven by Spears crashed, coming to rest on its top. Police said Spears might have been traveling too fast and fallen asleep when he crashed. He sustained head and neck injuries and was taken to St. Alphonsus Medical Center-Baker City by a passing motorist. Police cited him at the hospital, where he was treated and released.

FAILURE TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF A DRIVER INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT(Property)and DISQUALIFIED DRIVER/NO COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE: Mariano Alexis Cara, 36, of Salem, 10:05 a.m. Oct. 1; police said Cara dozed off while driving and crossed both lanes of eastbound travel. The truck and semi-trailer he was driving struck the concrete barrier, knocking several sections off center, police said.

Accident reports

At McCarty  Bridge Road and Highway 30 near North Powder, at 5:46 p.m. Oct. 1; police said a Jeep Wagoneer driven by Kenneth Edward Austin, 53, of Baker City, collided with a disc trailer being towed behind a tractor driven by Darryl Eugene Haggard, 52, of Haines, as the vehicles entered a blind corner. Austin was taken by private vehicle to St. Alphonsus Medical Center-Baker City where he was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Bishop Parker Ussery will officiate. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the fail for a reception at the LDS Church multipurpose room after the interment.

Herschel Scott: 81 of La Grande, a former Baker City resident, died Sept 27, 2014, at the Angeline Senior Living Center in La Grande. Gray’s West & Co. is in charge of arrangements.
