Steven Stockdale Steven L. Stockdale, 61, a former Baker City resident, died Oct. 5, 2006, at Roy, Wash. His memorial service will be scheduled later. Funeral Alternatives, 1410 Main St., Sumner, Wash., is in charge of arrangements. Steve was born on May 5, 1945, at Portland. He moved to Baker with his father R.J. "Red" Stockdale and his mother, Phyllis Stockdale. He attended Baker schools up to the 10th grade. The family then moved to Walla Walla, Wash., where Steve graduated in 1963. He attended Oregon Technical Institute (now Oregon Institute of Technology) at Klamath Falls and Boise State College (now Boise State University). He was a member of the Elks Drum and Bugle Corps while in Baker City and was active with the Baker Livestock Show. He was an avid hunter and raised English springer spaniel bird dogs. Steve was in the logging business at Walla Walla for a number of years and later moved to Boise and worked with Construction Equipment Sales. He met up again with his junior high school sweetheart, Patty Rogers, in 1998 and they were married in 1999 after 38 years of not knowing where the other was. They lived at Roy, Wash., where Steve was retired and tended to his springer dogs and the Koi pond that he and Patty built. Survivors include his wife, Patty, of Roy Wash.; a stepson, Scot Grovom, and grandson, Christian Grovom of Lenore, Idaho; his sister Lynn Johnson, and her husband, Dan, of Murrayville Ga.; two nieces, Marcy and Jennifer, also of Murrayville, Ga.; brother-in-law, Jim York, and his wife, Varene York, of Baker City; his best friend, Ed Davis, and his wife, Lelani, of The Alvord Ranch at Princeton. He was preceded in death by his father, Red Stockdale, and his mother, Phyllis. Jack McCarver Jack McCarver, 77, a former Durkee resident, died Sept. 22, 2006, at Grandview, Wash. His funeral was at Kennewick, Wash., where he and his wife, LaVonda, have lived for the past several years. Survivors include his daughter, Lessie Phillips, and his grandson, Joshua Grogan, of Durkee; and granddaughter, Casey Uney of Littleton, Colo. |
