Obituaries for Aug. 30, 2010

'Sam' Petty, Christina Blankenship

‘Sam’ Petty

Chrystopher “Sam” Petty, 53, died on June 29, 2010, at his home in Halfway.

A family gathering in his honor will be scheduled later.

Sam was born on Jan. 14, 1957, at San Jose, Calif., to Albert and Laura Petty. His family traveled quite extensively during his youth, but these last years brought him and his mother, Laura, to Halfway.

While Laura was alive, he enjoyed chauffeuring her to the store, or taking her for the daily drive around the valley. Sam was somewhat bashful, but once he got to know you he always shared a wave, a smile and a “how ya doin?”, family members said.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, John.

Survivors include his sister, Susan, and her husband, Bill Frerichs; brothers, Mark and Patrick; and several nieces and nephews.

Christina Blankenship

Christina Dawn Lott Blankenship, 38, of Baker City, died Aug. 26, 2010, at her home.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Baker City Christian Church, 675 Highway 7. A reception will follow at the Eagles Lodge, 2935 H St.

Arrangements are by Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home.

Christina lived most of her life in Springfield and was a graduate of the Springfield College of Beauty. She worked as a stylist most of her life.

Christy loved to camp, fish and garden. Some of her favorite things included Halloween, eating cold pizza for breakfast, any kind of Mexican dish, fishing in Leaburg, camping at Sumpter, yellow roses, the color green, Oregon Ducks, cutting family’s hair for free and barbecues with them.

She devoted most of her time to her family and was always there with a helping hand. She will be remembered for her big smile, contagious laugh and fun-loving spirit, family members said. She was a wonderful mother, sister, niece and friend.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christina Blankenship Estate at U.S. Bank.

Survivors include her biological father, Theodore Walker; sons, Aaron Lott and his wife, Cody, of Baker City and Eric Sheridan of Eugene; and daughters, Brianna and Skylar of Baker City; and brothers, Brian and John Lott of Ontario.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Kathy and Leon Lott.
