Obituaries for Dec. 8, 2010


Alfred Blatchford
Alfred Lennox Blatchford, 92, of Baker City, died Nov. 25, 2010.
At his request, there will be no funeral.

Mr. Blatchford was a 1940 graduate of Oregon State College (now Oregon State University) at Corvallis. He played the trombone in the college marching band.

He married his wife, Ruth, in 1942 and taught high school at Sandy. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and served as an officer on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theater.

He worked for the Veterans Administration for five years after the war. He started an all Jersey dairy farm at Hillsboro in 1950 and ran it for 20 years. He then owned and operated a farm machinery dealership for 10 years prior to his retirement in 1980.

He and his wife, Ruth, lived at Hillsboro from 1950 to 1980 and then spent 30 years at Corvallis where they became house parents at the Alpha Chi Omega sorority house in Corvallis. They moved to Baker City from Corvallis in November.

The couple loved to travel and saw much of the world, including trips to Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and most of the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Mr. Blatchford was recognized for his volunteer work with youth organizations and school boards and was a member of several churches, including the Presbyterian Church of Baker City.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Blatchford of Baker City; his sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Carolyn Blatchford of Vancouver, Wash., Dave and Jennifer Blatchford of Baker City and Jim and Kathy Blatchford of Haines; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


‘Bill’ Trump

William R. “Bill” Trump, 80, a lifelong Union resident, died Nov. 24, 2010, at his home.

At his request, there will be no service. Disposition was by cremation.

Mr. Trump was born on May 4, 1930, at Wallowa to William and Eva Hayes Trump.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Evelyn Stitzel Trump.

Survivors include his son, Steven Trump of Baker City; daughters, Judy (Paul) Champoux of Alderdale, Wash., and Janice (Terry) Souther of Idalia, Colo.; sister,  Barbara Moltman of Hermiston; eight grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. 

Daniels-Knopp Funeral Cremation & Life Celebration Center is in charge of arrangements.


June Rodriguez

 June Lee Rodriguez, 76, of Baker City, died Dec. 3, 2010.

 There will be no service at this time.

June was born on June 29, 1934, at Phoenix, Ariz., to Domingo and Josephine Gonzales. Throughout her life she enjoyed being with her family and friends. She was a very social person and many people knew her as “mamacita.” She loved to dance and listen to music.

Survivors include her children, Blasa, and her husband, Edward Stuart, of Butte, Mont., Juan Burgos of Idaho, Andy and his wife, Angie Moreno, of Mountain Home, Idaho, Pete and Jerry Burgos of Reno, Nev., and Martina Moreno and Josephine Morgan, both of Baker City; her grandchildren, Keith, Audrey, Amanda, Andrew, Amber, Alicia, Austin, Karrass, Antonio, Siera; and three great-grandchildren, with one due in June.

She was preceded in death by Maria and Effrem Moreno; and her grandson, Ralph Peters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association through Grays West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
