Barbara Hancock
Barbara Ann Hancock, 77, of Glendale, Ariz., a former Baker City resident, died Feb. 8, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family. There will be a Celebration of Life memorial service at 11 a.m. Feb. 28 at the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park, W. 5200 Wellesley Ave., Spokane, Wash. She was born on Sept. 10, 1931, at Baker City to Francis and Elaine Schmidt. She moved to Spokane, Wash., to attend Sacred Heart Nursing School. She mat Alvin Hancock there and the couple were married on Sept. 9, 1951. They were married for almost 46 years before he died on May 14, 1997. She practiced nursing as a Holy Family Hospital surgical technician and later worked 26 years for doctors in an office of obstetrics and gynecology. Barb “Bobbi” enjoyed life to the fullest, whether it was cooking for family gatherings, gardening, travel or reading, family members said. Being of strong faith, she was an active member and Eucharistic minister at Assumption Parish. She enjoyed helping others. She was involved with many organizations including, YWCA, Corban Center and she volunteered for St. Anna’s and the Cairtas Center. Among the many she loved were brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, her family said. Survivors include her sister, Patricia Bell, and her husband, Elvyn, of Baker City; her children, Pamela A. Earney of Glendale, Ariz., Sherry Lynch and her husband, Tim, of Williston, N.D, and David Hancock and his wife, Teresa, of Bonney Lake, Wash.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Poor Claire Nuns. |
