Obituaries for Jan. 4, 2012


Reba Hansen
Reba M. Hansen, 88, of Baker City died Dec. 30, 2011, at St. Alphonsus Medical Center-Baker City.
Visitation will be held at Coles Tribute Center, Wednesday Jan. 4, from 4-7 p.m. Her funeral will be Thursday Jan. 5, at 1 p.m. at Coles Tribute Center, 1950 Place St. in Baker City.  Pastor David Deputy of Calvary Baptist Church in Baker City will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
She was born Rebecca M. Baird on May 24, 1923, at La Grande to Avon and Ethel C. (Plummer) Baird. Reba was the sixth child of 11 siblings. During her childhood she grew up in the Keating Valley, while her family worked at the Mother Lode Mine. Later, her family moved to Halfway where she completed her education.
During World War II Reba worked in Portland as a welder in the shipyards with her sisters. She also enjoyed music and playing the violin. Reba loved cooking, reading, and being outdoors. 
She met and later married George Hansen in July 1954. They had three children: Bill, Fred and Viola. The greatest joys of Reba’s life were her children and her grandchildren. She loved to be surrounded with family and loved ones.
Reba was preceded in death by her husband, George Hansen, and nine siblings.
She is survived by two sisters: Ruby Phillips of Pendleton, and Hazel Pearson of Richland, Wash.;  sons and daughters-in-law: Bill and Linda Hansen of La Grande, and Fred and Jean Hansen of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Vi and Jack Isaacs of Baker City; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or The Ronald McDonald House, through Coles Tribute Center 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814.
