Obituaries for July 29, 2011


William Stamper
William E. Stamper, 70 of Medford, died July 15, 2011, at his home.

Bill was born on Aug. 6, 1940, at Honolulu to Vernetta Esther Hunnicutt and William Charles Stamper.

He entered the military at the age of 23 in 1963 and retired after 38 years and 2 months. He achieved the rank of sergeant first class, non-commissioned officer in charge, with Plans and Operations for the 146th Combat Support Hospital of the California Army National Guard, reporting to the 175th Medical Brigade.

He trained soldiers in the art of firearms and also enjoyed restoring antique firearms for friends and writing plays. He had been working on a screenplay involving some minor characters from “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

Survivors include his sister, artist and author, Dorene Jeanette Stamper; niece, Cynthia Lynn von Schlehenreid; nephews, David Martin Giordano, Johnathan D. Hall, Jason M. Hall and Robert J. Hall; grandnieces, Kressie Giordano, Hannah  Giordano, Lola E. Hall, and Haley Hall; grandnephews, Jeremy J. Welch, Jonathan Welch, Joshua Welch and Trey  M. Hall; his cousin, James C. Longwell, and his wife, Peggie, of Baker City; and his best friend, Col. Frank Woo of Lafayette, Calif.
