‘Angel’ Leggett

Yvette “Angel” Leggett, 67, of Baker City died June 24, 2009 at Boise.

Friends and family honored her during a memorial barbeque June 27 at her home.

Angel was born on April 23, 1942, at San Francisco to Russell and Marie Petropoulos LeFevre. She attended Balboa High School, the same school her father attended.

She married Larry Foster and the couple had one son: Russell Foster. She and Larry later divorced, but remained lifelong friends.

Angel then married Ralph Eckhart and lived as a Navy wife for the next 16 years. During that time she was involved with Webelo Scouts and Juvenile Retrieval. She claimed to have had 499 attend meetings at her home in San Diego throughout the years.

After she and Ralph divorced, Angel had a brief marriage to Bobby McGirr. She and Bobby moved to Texas where she worked at a catfish restaurant. She was known as the one built like Dolly.

The couple later returned to California where they went their separate ways. Angel and her cousin, Pat, later planned to go to Montana, but when Pat decided that was too far to travel, they blindly picked a spot on the California map. The spot was Paradise, so that’s where they headed.

After only three days in Paradise, Angel landed a job at Cypress Acres Nursing Home. While working there she qualified as a certified nurses assistant and won many awards.

One night she invited some friends over for supper and they brought with them a man named Ricky Leggett. The two hit it off and spent the next 24 years making each other happy. She married Rick on March 15, 1991 at Reno, Nev.

Rick worked for a mining company that brought the couple to Baker City where Angel went to work for Super 8 Motel for a few years as a housekeeper and became the head housekeeper. Eventually, she was able to start working for Meadowbrook Place, an assisted-living facility. That was the job she loved the most.

She worked there for nine years as a CNA. Around 2003, Angel retired because of medical conditions.

She was a collector. She liked arts and crafts, movies and cooking. She loved to fish and enjoyed needlework as well.

Survivors include her husband, Ricky Leggett of Baker City; her father, Russell LeFevre; sister, Collette LeFevre; a cousin Debbie Petropoulos; and two nephews, Brian Ivanhoe and Kevin Barrett, all of San Francisco.

She was preceded in death by her son, Russell Foster; her mother, Marie LeFevre; and a sister, Marie Barrett.
