Ronald Gene “Ron” Paul, 71, died March 7, 2011, at Baker City.
His memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1250 Hughes Lane. Pastor Lenny Spooner will officiate.
Ron was born on Feb. 21, 1940, at Bradleyville, Mo., to Melvin and Goldie Harper Paul. Ron attended Turlock High School at Turlock, Calif., graduating in 1959.
He married Brenda Mathews on Nov. 4, 1973, at Carson City, Nev. He worked several years in the construction trade with an early interest in form setting for PG&E of California for transmission line towers.
He later focused his talents and craftsmanship as a drywall specialist and finisher in the private sector on exclusive homes around Lake Tahoe and Sonora, Calif. His commercial construction work included casinos and large apartment complexes in resort areas. He also worked in the oil fields in California.
His craftsmanship legacy lives on in the skills and knowledge that he taught to his son and other family members. Ron retired in the early 1990s, relocating with his family to the beautiful Baker Valley.
He was an avid hunter and marksman. He loved the outdoors and the beauty of God’s creation, family members said. He spent several family outings hunting in the Cherry and Herring Creek areas of the Sierra Mountains.
Ron was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He appreciated family and friends. His loved ones and friends will remember him as a jovial, big-hearted man who had a mischievous sparkle in his eye, family members said.
“Though the space around us is emptier with his passing, our hearts remain full of love and memories of the ways Ron touched all of our lives,” they said.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Paul, of Baker City; son, Ronald G. Paul Jr. of Wrangell, Alaska; three daughters, Alissa R. Kellogg of Bremerton, Wash., Cynthia A. Heard of Portland and Stacy L. Giffen of Baker City; two brothers, Donald D. Paul of Baker City and Raymond Paul of La Grange, Calif.; one sister, Betty Showen of Cottage Grove; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
