'Nate' Arbogast,  Edward Giovannetti



‘Nate’ Arbogast

Nathan A. “Nate” Arbogast, 39, of Heppner died Feb. 28, 2010, as a result of a skiing accident at Anthony Lakes.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Heppner High School Gymnasium. There will be a reception afterward in the school cafeteria. His graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at the Monument Cemetery in Monument.

He was born Feb. 26, 1971 at Oregon City, the son of Hal A. and Judith A. Cavender Arbogast. He was raised and attended school at Molalla until the ninth grade when he moved to Monument to live with his aunt and uncle, Jan and Paul Jewell.

He graduated from Monument High School in 1989. He went on to attend Portland State University where he graduated in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree and then to Eastern Oregon State College (now Eastern Oregon University) in La Grande where he received a post- baccalaureate teaching degree in 1995.

He married Chandra Bender on June 13, 1992, at Monument. The couple moved to Heppner in the mid ’90s, where he worked for the Morrow County School District.

He then followed his true passion in life through his company, Wind Wave, which was bringing high-speed Internet into the area, especially for the benefit of the rural schools so the students could learn and compete with the larger schools.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, skiing, hunting, golfing, movies, computer games, and also serving as deacon for many years at the Christian Life Center.

Survivors include his wife, Chandra Arbogast, and children, Cade, Kai, and Cara, all of Heppner; mother, Judy Cavender of Portland; father, Hal Arbogast of Pendleton; brother, Matt Arbogast of Tracy, Calif.; and grandfather, Jack Cavender of Monument.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Nettie and Floyd Arbogast; grandmother, Alda Clyde Cavender; uncle, Paul Jewell; and cousin, Jaime Geinger.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Life Center, P.O. Box 145, Heppner, OR 97836.

Sweeney Mortuary of Heppner is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Giovannetti


Edward Albert Giovannetti, 82, of Baker City, died Feb. 26, 2010, at his home. 

At his request, his body was cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled later.

Mr. Giovannetti was born on Feb. 16, 1928, at Los Angeles to Eddy and Ruth Haskell Giovannetti. He received his education at Montebello High School and Oklahoma State.  Mr. Giovannetti also served in the U. S. Army. 

Mr. Giovannetti’s other training was with the PGA National Golf Association where he was a professional golfer (PGA). He retired in 1992. 

His hobbies were golfing, hunting, fishing and boating. He was a member of the Baker Elks Lodge and a member of the PGA America.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Giovannetti of Baker City; sons, Ed Giovannetti of Troy, Idaho, and Paul Giovannetti of Gold Beach; granddaughters, Tamica Purdy of Boise and Deanna Giovannetti of Milford, Conn.; great-grandchildren, Mya, Maliya and Preston Purdy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Giovannetti; and a grandson, Preston Giovannetti.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Junior Golf Association of Baker City through Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814.
