Watson Eastman

Watson Sterling Eastman, 84, of Baker City, died Feb. 25, 2009, at his home in Meadowbrook Place.

Watson was born on Sept. 13, 1924, at Victoria, British Columbia, to William and Lorraine Eastman. He grew up at Portland and graduated from Grant High School.

Watson was a World War II combat veteran. He was self-employed most of his life, working through his retirement years for the Oregonian Publishing Co. until he was 81.

Watson and Cathryn, his wife of 63 years, moved to Baker City in 2007. Cathryn died on Jan. 30, 2009.

Watson was a lifetime outdoorsman with a passion for fly-fishing, beginning on the Deschutes River in the 1950s. He was a strong supporter of catch-and-release fisheries and stream restoration. He spoke from his heart, and will be remembered for his strength, wit and kind words for all, his family members said.

Survivors include his sons, David and John; daughter, Kelsey; sister, Margaret Kresse; and four grandchildren.

Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
