Harold Redden

Baker City, 1924-2013

Harold Roy Redden, 89, of Baker City, died Nov. 10, 2013, at Settler’s Park Assisted Living Community. 

No service is scheduled at this time.

Harold was born on Aug. 27, 1924, at Dunsmuir, Calif., to Leo Roy and Ethel Elaine Lyons Redden. He attended California Polytechnic and joined the U.S. Navy where he served four years. He became a civil engineer and worked for Caltrans on highway projects in San Luis Obispo, Calif. 

Harold married Kathleen Melton at Santa Barbara, Calif. They raised two children, Beverly and Larry.

Harold was an avid golfer and a member of the San Luis Obispo Country Club where he scored four holes-in-one. He also was a member of the American Legion, Post No. 66, for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife Kathleen; his stepdaughter, Beverly Hale and her husband, Darrell, of Sumpter; his stepson, Larry Blessing and his wife, Sara, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion through Gray’s West and Co., 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.

Mary Ellen Rick

Baker City, 1930-2013

Mary Ellen Rick, 82, of Baker City, died Nov. 11, 2013, at Meadowbrook Place.

No service is planned at this time. 

Mary was born on Dec. 2, 1930, at Baker City to James Edgar and Frances Anna Richards Young. She married William Dewey Rick, who died in 2011.  

She was a loving and caring mother, and will be very much missed, family members said.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Ruisch of Lake Charles, La., and Betty Fuller of Baker City; and two sons, Tim Rick of Baker City and Gary Rick of Pendleton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heart ’n’ Home Hospice through Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
