Obituaries for Nov. 2, 2011

John Heart
John Edwin Heart, 64, a former Baker City resident, died Oct. 18, 2011, at his home in Rainier after a battle with cancer.
His funeral was Oct. 26 at The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Rainier.

John was born on Oct 3, 1947, at Baker City to Harry and Daisy Rowe Heart. He grew up at Baker City in the Pocahontas Road area and attended Baker schools. He was a 1966 Baker High School graduate.

After high school, he joined the Army National Guard. After his service in the National Guard, he returned to Baker City where he worked several different jobs throughout his life.

John married Yvonne Olsen on Nov. 30, 1968, at Baker City. They had five children together: Candice “Candy,” Alex, Adam, Aaron and Zachary. They later divorced.

John married his longtime companion, Estella Gavey, in 2004. The couple moved from Baker City to Rainier in 2002.

When John was growing up he was very active in bowling and attended many out-of-town tournaments during his teen years. He was an avid outdoorsman and greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Estella; daughter, Candy Sherman of Kyle, Texas; sons, Alex, Adam, Aaron (Chantel) and Zachary (Kelly), all of the Salt Lake City area; grandchildren, Thomas, Lanez, Jennifer, Amber, Seth and Skyler Heart and Brandon, Amanda, Emily and Luke Sherman; nieces, Jeri Ann Geddes of Baker City and Rita Humphreys of Gresham; and nephew, Brian Geddes of Baker City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Daisy; sister, Roseanna Heart Geddes; and brother-in-law, Jerry Geddes.
