Obituaries for Nov. 28, 2011

Ralph Jacobs
Ralph Harold Jacobs, 91, died Nov. 23, 2011, at his home in Keating.
His funeral will be Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Baker City Christian Church on Highway 7. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for a reception immediately following the interment at the Baker City Christian Church. Ralph was born Dec. 5, 1919, to Harry and Velma Jacobs. He was the second generation of the family sheep ranch, starting his herding debut at age 6. He grew up spending summers at the family homestead at Five Mile, and winters attending school at Wingville and Baker. He graduated from Baker High in 1938.
After completing his term of service as staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps at Big Delta, Alaska, he returned to the family ranch and married Hildreth Cook. Following their marriage in 1952, Ralph and Hildreth settled in Keating where they raised their two sons, Curt and Perry. During their 59 years of marriage, they worked the sheep and cattle operation, often including nieces, nephews and friends in the haying and lambing crews.
Ralph was family-oriented, as well as active in the Baker County Cattlemen’s Association, Big Creek Water Control District, Keating Grange, 4-H fairs, and ASCS (Farm Service Agency) committee.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Hildreth; son Curtis and his wife Annie, son Perry and his wife, Corinna; four grandchildren: Kimberlee Jacobs, Jason Jacobs and his wife, Kelly, Katy Thomas and her husband, Derral, and Alyssa Jacobs; great-grandchildren, MaKenna Thomas and Rylan Jacobs; and sister-in-law, Helen Jacobs. He was close to his nieces and nephews, and loved to visit with his many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings: Pauline Smith, Clarence Jacobs, Paul Jacobs and Katherine Sampson.
If desired, donations can be made to Keating Rural Fire Protection District in care of Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 543, Halfway, OR 97834
