'Sue' Perry

‘Sue’ Perry

Haroldine “Sue” Perry, 68, of Sutherlin, a former Baker City resident, died Oct. 9, 2009.

She was born on Jan. 17, 1941, at McCall, Idaho, to Ernest Harold and Vivian Pearl Hopkins. She was born again on Sept. 11, 1977, at Rogue River, her family said.

Sue grew up in Baker City and attended Baker schools. She was a 1959 Baker High School graduate.

She married Chet Perry on Dec. 1, 1972, on a cold, snowy day in Weiser, Idaho. They laughed over the years that she cost him $14 and a Chinese dinner.

Chet often quipped that he was certain the justice of the peace who married them was certain that they would never make it. He was probably right until Sue found Jesus, family members said.

She and Chet moved to Rogue River in May of 1973. Sue worked as an automotive bookkeeper at Chevrolet, Datsun and Buick auto dealerships in Baker City and Burns and as a payroll clerk for the hospital in Grants Pass.

In 1983, Sue and Chet moved to Sutherlin and together managed the Soft Winds Mobile Home Park where they lived. Sue volunteered with Mercy Hospital’s Spiritual Care, a true joy in her life for approximately five years.

She loved Jesus, family, the family of God, God’s Word, prayer, worship, reading, cooking and just hanging out with her best friend and husband, Chet, her family said. She also loved when the Holy Sprit gave her words of blessing and encouragement for others.

“Sue’s passionate desire is that the chain would be unbroken, that all her family, all she knows and loves, would meet her at the finish line,” her family said. “What a wonderful day that will be!”

Survivors include her husband, Chester “Chet” L. Perry of Sutherlin; son, Chet O’Brian Perry and his wife, Rachelle, and grandkids Makenna, Micah and Caleb of Troutdale; stepson, Gerald Perry, and his wife, Kristi, granddaughter, Jayme Gorman, and her husband, Rich, and great-granddaughter, Porter, and grandsons Joe and Cash Cooper, all of Dallas; stepdaughter, Janet Posen, and her husband, Joel, of Rogue River and grandson, Joshua, and his wife, Brianna, of San Francisco; stepdaughter, Diane Stewart, and her husband, Scott, and granddaughter, Lindsey Amos, and her husband, Anthony, granddaughter, Stacie Lopez, and her husband, Javier, and great-grandsons, Angel, Junior and JeNoah, and grandson, Perry, of Fortuna, Calf.; her sisters, Lorraine Gardner of Baker City and Dixie Lee Yocum and her husband, Gene, of Oceanside, Calif.; and numerous nephews, nieces and special friends.
