‘Andy’ Pevelek


Antone J. “Andy” Pavelek, 90, of St. Helens, a former Baker City resident, died Sept. 28, 2009, at a Portland hospital.

His graveside service and vault interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Columbia Memorial Gardens at St. Helens. Visitations will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens.

Antone was born on Jan. 20, 1919, at Donald to Anton and Antonia Visela Pavelek. He was educated at Woodburn and was a 1937 Woodburn High School graduate. He graduated from Oregon State University at Corvallis in 1941.

He married Bernice Widman on Oct. 9, 1947, at Baker City where they lived until moving to St. Helens 50 years ago. Antone was a district conservationist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 32 years, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of St. Frederic Catholic Church and, early on, the Toastmasters. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, gardening and crabbing.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Pavelek, and son, Steve Pavelek, both of St. Helens; daughter, Linda Miezejeski of Vancouver, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Frederic Catholic Church Memorial Fund.
