Obituaries for Oct. 7, 2011

Dorothy Petersen
Dorothy Christine Petersen O’Mohundro, 84, of La Grande, died Sept. 8, 2011, at Corvallis, with family by her side. 
Her funeral was Sept. 19 at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center in La Grande. Entombment was at the Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum in La Grande.

Dorothy, the second of four children was born at home in North Powder to Gerald Leslie Petersen and Lula Adeline Davis Petersen on Aug. 16, 1927. Dorothy was married to Lewis Roy O’Mohundro on Jan. 1, 1949, by the Rev. Clarence Kopp at the Episcopal Church in La Grande. 

Dorothy graduated from North Powder High School in 1945. She went on to receive her Junior College degree of Education at Eastern Oregon College of Education in 1947, a Bachelors of Science in Education at Eastern Oregon College of Education in 1953 and a Masters of Science in Education from Eastern Oregon in August 1964. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gama, OEA and NEA. Dorothy taught in Ordinance, Oregon for three years, Union, for 12 years and La Grande, at Greenwood for two years and Riveria for 20 years. Dorothy is a life member of the Hope Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star as well as a past member of the Lady Shrine Nydia Temple No. 4. 

Dorothy was a descendent of John S. Davis and Susan Dealy Davis, who homesteaded the family ranch in North Powder in 1872, and Chris and Rosella Petersen, who were pioneers in Baker County. 

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Lewis R O’Mohundro; her children Lee Roy O’Mohundro, Richard Lewis and Debbie O’Mohundro, and David and Susan O’Mohundro-Bailey; her grandchildren Burns Lewis Bailey; Simone Bailey Wright; Hannah Lou O’Mohundro and Tannis Ray O’Mohundro; as well as her sister, Linda Clausen and her husband, Bruce of Bullhead City, Ariz.; brother-inlaw, Ronald Patterson of Camloops, British Columbia, Canada; sister-in-law, Jan Petersen of La Grande; nephews: Michael Chris Petersen, Thomas Gregg Petersen, Jeffrey Philip Petersen, and Stephen John Petersen; and nieces: Jeannie Durante, Paula Almond, Tara Ashoff and Tracy Buckholz, Amy Roth Basey.  

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Leslee Ann O’Mohundro and her siblings, Johnny Chris Petersen and Patricia Ann (Patsy) Patterson. 

In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice in care of Daniels-Knopp, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande.
