Obituaries for Sept. 9, 2011

Beverly Lee
Beverly Lee, 78, died Aug. 29, 2011, at her home on Eagle Creek at New Bridge
A wake to celebrate Beverly’s life will be scheduled later.
Beverly was born on Sept. 9, 1932, at Elma, Wash., to Vern and Corrinne McCleary. She was raised at Montesano, Wash., and graduated from high school there.
Beverly married Bob Strong before she graduated and together they had four children: Tom, Pam, Joliene and Bob. They lived at Hump Tulip, Wash., as well as Whites and McCleary. They later divorced.
Beverly lived at Ketchikan, Alaska, working as a waitress, bartender and in a cannery. She moved to Gresham.
When Beverly met Marvin at Lewis and Clark College in Portland where they both were employed, it was love immediately, their family said. One of the pastimes they enjoyed was going to traffic court to listen to the judge.
One day, the judge told Marvin: “When you are ready to get married, I’ll marry you for free,” the family said.
Marvin couldn’t miss out on that, so the two were married in 1992. Marvin and Beverly loved to fish and had fished all at sites all over Oregon. They loved Eastern Oregon and moved to Eagle Creek in 1996.
Beverly also enjoyed hunting and she’d never met a stranger, her family said.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bob, who died in 1974; sister, Alice; brothers, Vern and George; and half sister, Verna.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin; her children, Tom Strong, and his wife, Ronda, of Mohave Desert, Ariz., Pam Mitchell and her husband, John, of Portland, Joliene Merrell and her husband, Jeff, of Castlerock, Wash., Karen Sefton and her husband, Jim, of Seward, Alaska, and Sharon Meeds of Arlington, Minn.; grandchildren, Aubrey, Serena, Shannon, Cory, Kristel, Amanda, David, Tommy, Kelly and Kevin; great-grandchildren, Dillan, ShellieAnn, Kayla, Brenden, Jakob and Yesenia; great- great-grandchild, Cody; brother, Gerald Lee McCleary of Mississippi; sister, Betty Lou McCleary of Taft, Calif.; stepbrother, Earl J. Burtch of Aberdeen, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eagle Valley Ambulance EMT Training Fund through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 543, Halfway, OR 97834.
