'Ken' Hannaford, Thelma Stewart ‘Ken’ Hannaford Lovell Franklin “Ken” Hannaford, 85, died Nov. 17, 2009, at Portland.His funeral was Saturday at the Pine Baptist Church in Halfway. Interment was at Pine Haven Cemetery in Halfway. Lovell Franklin was born on July 18, 1924, at Ava, Mo., to Edwin and Ellen Hannaford. Although Lovell was his given name, when he served in the Merchant Marines his friends claimed he looked like a Ken and so that became the name he was known by. Ken was raised and educated in Missouri. After high school, through hard work, dedication, and apprenticeships, Ken became a mechanical engineer. At age 75, he retired from Americold as director of engineering. He married Dorothy Hilderbrand, the daughter of Ethel and Park Coker, on July 3, 1952. They made their home at Portland. They had one daughter, Teri. Ken loved spending time with his grandchildren, taking them on fun, learning adventures but never getting into too much trouble, his family said. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Dorothy. Survivors include his daughter, Teri, and her husband, Delvin, and their two children, Kevin, and Caitlin Taylor of Portland; his sister, Minnie O’Dell of Milwaukie; and father-in-law, Park Coker of Halfway. Thelma Karen Stewart, 69, of Nampa, Idaho, died Nov. 18, 2009, at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise after battling a long illness. Her memorial service and a celebration of her life was Saturday at the Richland Christian Church. Interment will be in the spring of 2010 at the Indian Valley Cemetery. Thelma was born on Jan. 1, 1940, at Council, Idaho, to Clide and Esther Woods. She had one sibling, her brother, Selby “Joe.” Thelma attended school at Council. Her hobbies included playing the flute, singing in the choir, playing softball and cheerleading. She also received awards for her musical talents. She was married to her first husband, George Rinehart, at the age of 17. She married Bill Stewart on Nov. 1, 1984. Thelma worked hard at various jobs, including as a waitress, cook, and homemaker. She even owned a gas station with her husband, Bill. She was an active member in the Congregational Church at Council, Idaho, and the Christian Church of Richland. Thelma loved music, the outdoors, family and spending time with her grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a big tease, family members said. She had many friends and family who loved her. “We will miss her so much,” family members said. “It’s not goodbye, but we’ll see you later.” Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Bill Stewart; son, Mike Rinehart, and his wife, Suzanne; daughter, Dawn Elam, and her husband, Dave; four grandchildren, Brooke Wilson, Jason Elam, Melissa Elam, and Sean Rinehart; one great-grandchild, Ayden Wilson; three nieces, Julie Graber, and her husband, Chuck, Joy Miller and Jill Woods; one great-niece, Taylor Graber; and her brother, Selby “Joe” Woods and his wife, Janet.
