Obituary: Wanda Byars

Wanda Byars

Wanda Byars, 77, of Baker City, died Oct. 5, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.

There will be no service.

Wanda was born on Dec. 12, 1928, at Elizabethton, Tenn., and married her true love, Paul Cantrell, on Dec. 10, 1946. Although they lived in many parts of the country, Baker City was always home.

Wanda's final move to Baker City was in 1967. She worked as a waitress at the Royal Cafe for many years. Later she married Jim Byars and they co-managed the Eltrym Theater until they retired.

Wanda enjoyed traveling and her favorite hobby was crocheting. Her beautiful work will be treasured by her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Bill and Becky Vinzant of Baker City ; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Chrissy Cantrell of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six grandchildren and two-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roy Cole, and his wife, Wanda, and their family, Howard Cole and his wife, Mona, and their family, and Buford Cole and his wife, Cleadith, and their family.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; her mother, Myrtle Cole; and her sister, Donnie Gervais.
